Liverpool

Early in the morning, I sadly bid farewell to Mark, then Sally and Ben, and started to make my way up to Liverpool. The drive to Liverpool was quite fast considering the distance. I stopped off at a service station to use the bathroom, and I went in to the bookshop to get an AA road mapbook (a bit of a tradition now). While I was there, I spotted a SFX magazine with Doctor Who on the cover in 3D! I sent Mum a text to see where she was, and she sent one back. Normally, this wouldn’t be noteworthy, except it was Mum’s first EVER text.

I arrived with a good hour before Mum’s train was due to get in. The TomTom told me to turn left up a (presumably recently changed) one way street, so I had fun going around the block a couple of times looking for the carpark. When I eventually did find it, the carpark was completely full, but luckily I spotted someone getting into their car on the nearest side street to the station. I bought and ate a brilliant Cornish Pasty while I waited. After going out o put more money in the meter, I arrived back to find David and Rose (Mum’s cousin and wife) waiting outside the arrival gate. It turned out that Mum’s train had been delayed so her last connection was shifted onto the next train – only another half hour wait.

We all bundled into the car and drove back to David and Rose’s house in Old Swan, a suburb of Liverpool. I found it amusing listening to David telling me stories about the buildings that used to be there, and every time the story ended with "... but they knocked it down and built a..." We didn’t feel like touring Liverpool, so we stayed at their house and chatted for hours. Over the course of the night, Maria and Steph showed up and left again.

We had a bit of a laugh about their house which had all manner of fancy gadgets installed: a remote control for turning power on and off, a light switch that you tap with your finger (and also had a remote control), and wireless broadband, all of which they had no idea how to use – Maria’s influence!

I was feeling quite tired after all the driving, and so I retired to bed quite early (about 11:00). I heard the 'oldyuns' downstairs still chatting as I drifted off to sleep.
